So, I have been scouring the internet to figure out what the heck is going on, and I am hitting walls. I found a post that is really similar to what I am experiencing, but no real helpful replies. I figure I will give it a shot on my own, anyways.
I am not a terribly experienced long distance runner. I come from a family of marathoners and ultra marathoners, and have done keep-in-shape casual runs for the last couple of years. They were typically 3-6 miles in distance. A few months ago I decided to up the anties by increasing my miles and frequency, so that I can be better prepared for races I want to do with my family (they also do 5ks, 10ks, etc) and recently completed a 15k with them. I would say I run about 40-60 miles a week at this point, for the last few months, and I alternate in incline treadmill and outside. I dabble in speed and hill training, with a lot of hill repeats for the last few weeks. I have custom orthodics in my shoes and know all about proper running strides and have done my best at attempting injury prevention.
To make a long story short, I went for a run a little over a week ago and when I came home to stretch I noticed a small pain in the outside part of my right foot, just before the heel. Not a big deal, but the more I rested the more I noticed it ... it would go away by morning and return again after a run. Ran the race on Sunday, lots of hills involved, took a few days off out of sheer laziness or went for a run yesterday. As I was walking to the gym (treadmill day, as the weather was atrocious), the outside part of my foot started to hurt again with sharp pains. I got on the treadmill and it REALLY hurt to walk, but I am a trooper (possibly a stupid one) and decided to keep running. As soon as I started running, the pain went away! Once I stopped running to walk, the pain returned! To test it out, I started running again - gone! Walking - back! Went to bed and thought it would go away, but this time it really hurts today. I have been speed walking/avoiding pressure on my right foot around work to avoid pain, but you can imagine how silly I look doing this.
I did a little pressing and I figured out that it hurts when I push on the spot about 1/2" before my heel, a little deeper inside on located on the outside part of my right foot. Not so much bone, but more of a tendon/muscle thing. I don't think it has anything to do with my heel. No pain anywhere else but that one little naggy spot.
Will this go away in a few days and does anybody know what the heck this could be?
