One reason is there're more male basketball participants and audience than female.
yeah, see above, and I also people might think men's is more exciting because there are a lot of sweet dunks and stuff where as you rarely see that in womens if at all.
I personally support both leagues, I like the atlanta dream and have met and played with a few of their players, but in all honesty, the men's league is a much higher level of skill and athleticism, not everyone can enjoy a sport at every level, thats why you see people watch national leagues over college,or nba over d-league and so on.
Dont take that as an insult, as i said theyre both entertaining, i watch both leagues, but the fundamentals, and execution are on different levels, something that you dont need athleticism for. while i like watching it, i know there is a big difference with the NBA and the WNBA
Only because they've been around longer (NBA: 60 yrs vs. WNBA: 10 yrs). Give the WNBA time to cultivate a fan base. In my opinion, the WNBA is a better, more competitive game because they actually play defense and have to run plays on the offensive end, instead of dunking all the time. The men's game is boring by comparison... always some "superstar" playing one-on-one, no passing, no designed plays (did someone say "team" sport?). And the NBA scrapped defense in pursuit of higher scoring games. If you want competitive basketball played at both ends of the court, tune in to the next WNBA game. These women bring it!
Yeah, Theres just more male participants
i have played basketball personally with a 3rd string former nba player, and a star wnba player, and the 3rd string nba player was much better on both sides of the ball, i watch the game and have given an analytic view of it, watch the nba and the wnba, and look at the footwork, shooting, spacing, execution, all of that, the Nba is the best league in the world in all of that, not even FIBA is on that level(except for maybe execution, international leagues are really solid with their halfcourt offense/defense)
Once again, with all the respect for the WNBA in the world, you just cant penalize the mens league for having a higher level of athleticism. and the stuff about no defense, just superstar 1-on-1, no set plays, no passing, that stuff just isnt true.
And for the record while i do understand why mens league are more popular, the womens league should still have a lot more fans than it does.Mainly because:
A. Its still competitive
B. There are still some talented players to watch
C. Its in the summer, so it doesnt really clash too much with any other basketball(besides a few playoff games)
D. The Atlanta dream are nice, so at least follow my favorite team in the league.
probably NBA has more stars and is publicized more
because of two MAIN reasons
1- Men like to watch man sports (football, basketball, soccer, etc.) and they dont like to see women copy them
2- Women like to watch man sports (football, basketball, soccer, etc.) becasue there's men!
