Anyone back to running after breaking a leg?

On May 13th, 2010, two weeks before my first 5k run, I fell off my young horse (she tripped at the canter) and I broke my tibia, fibula, & ankle. After surgery (IM nail reamed into tibia & screwed into place with some bone grafting at top near knee) & 5 days in the hospital, I am home & healing.  The surgeons said it would be 1 yr before I am back to normal - ie. the condition I was in before the accident.  Due to a backlog with physiotherapists, it will be at the 5 wk post-surgery mark before I can get in.

My questions are:

anyone out there experience the same sort of break?

how long did it 'really' take you to recover?

what exercises did you do to keep your ankle & knee mobile?

is there a thread on this site to read?

Thanks for your input.
