Starting C25K on Monday July 12, 2010 Who's in???

Hello ALL!!!  I started c25k a bit ago - but was out of town several weeks and then was off track.  I am ready to dive into W1 again on JULY 12 (on vacation until the end of this week)

Would love some moral support

I am a mother of 4 - (youngest is 3 1/2)  Never have been a runner or have run anything really.  Trying to lose 30 pounds and had a friend do this program and she looks and feels fantastic.

SO I am excited to see the program really works.

I am currently running on a treadmill - but would like to take it outdoors a few times if I can - Wanted to run a 5k the end of summer.  Who's with me???

-Natalie

I'm in the same boat...need to lose 30 pounds and would really like to run a 5K. I lost 18 last year but hurt my achilles and could barely walk let alone run...gained it all back. =(  I have 2 young kids so free time is rare for me but I do have a treadmill. Is the C25K good? Should I buy it? Was just gonna do it on my own. Ay advice is appreciated.

Hello guys! I am always willing to give and get support.

I officially started 2 weeks ago and I am in the midst of struggling through Week 3 right now.

I need to lose alot more than 30 pounds, but I am just not focusing on that ... just focusing on being healthier.

My first 5K is in September.

    Oooo ooooo! mE! Me!

I am really needing a gentle push of like-minded (formerly lazy) people who want to get off the couch and onto better health.

What exactly is the C25k? Is it an actual program to follow?

I'm sure I need something that tells me what I should do each day since I've been "tryin to run" since...2007?

If it is a program, would someone kindly tell me where I can get the details?

I'm so proud of me! (Gotta speak those things....)

    Kaytastic (love the name BTW)

If you go to coolrunning.com the program is there - but also if you goggle C25K it should come up.

Its a great program ... I ran for 3 minutes straight today (twice) along with a couple of shorter runs and when I first started 1 minute was a long time!

Welcome all... Yes coolrunnings has one for free. if you have an mp3 or ipod you can go to http://c25k.com/ to down the podcast. yes it is possible to loose weight with it. I love the treadmill and running with the podcast helps. for me I wanted to go to fast and then by the end of the first run I was to tried to run the second run for the 90 secs. I have slowed it down on the treadmill to 4mph which has helped a lot....so go slow....

    Wayna,

Glad to hear another treadmill warrior. I currently run at 4.2 and walk at about 2.8-3.0 depending on how long I have been doing it. (I have no idea why this post is underlined, sorry)

I would recommend another podcast as well... I use runningintoshape.com. Its a great podcast developed by a woman named Carli and it uses top 40 hits which are kinda fun to listen to and sing along to.

Today is a day off... this weekend I got horribly sunburned so I usually run Monday, Wed, Saturday but I was unable to run on Monday because of the sunburn. I did W3D1 yesterday ... and today I am resting!

me to on the day of rest. I am trying to run tue, thrus, and if I can 2 times on sundays. I have been there as well to the running in shape.com I like here as well. I like the christian indie music the best. have a great run tommorow. I am off this this week on my running with the holiday on monday and it looks like I get my new car today so I am not sure what the reset of week is going to be like.

I was excited yesterday I made it almost 2 miles on the walk/run. it is going much easier this time around.

    have a great run.

Count me in.  I just started C25K this past Monday (7/5)....made it through W1D2 this morning.  Feeling good.  I tried this twice before at the gym, and really struggled.  This time, I'm doing it outdoors.  I'm a REALLY slow runner, so I think I was pushing myself to run too fast on the treadmill.  Hoping to have more success without the treadmill.

Never been a runner.  Played field hockey in high school, and was always at the back of the pack during the warm up runs.  But, just turned 40 last month, about 40 pounds overweight, and decided that it's never too late to get into shape.  That, and after spending the holidays with my mother & mother-in-law, I'm determined to slow down the march to middle age before I look like them.  :-)

Will be on vacation next week.  Already contacted the resort, and got a trail map, so I could plan my W2 runs.  Don't want to postpone by another week, what I should have done years ago.  It's a lifetime change, right?

Hoping for my first 5K in October.

    Best of luck to everyone!

After becoming intersted in C25K, and thinking about doing it, I just saw an advertisement for a 5K on Alki Beach on my 56th birthday! It feels right that I should get moving and give myself the gift of heath for my Bday. I have at least 55 lbs to lose, have not been active for the past 10 years and because of a major back surgery, have no core strength. Does anyone out there think I can do it? Can I actually get myself ready for the 5K in 7 1/2 weeks? Or am I being unrealistic. I need all the moral support I can get.

    Thanks,

    D

SeattleD -  Personally, that completing your first 5K (whether it's in 25 minutes, 35 minutes, or an hour), is an accomplishment.  Just getting out, and doing something puts you ahead of all the other 56 year olds (and younger), who are still on the couch!
