Earlier this year when I was training for my spring marathon, I started developing knee pain during my long runs. I recently saw an orthopedist, who diagnosed me with "roughening of the knee cartilage" and mild osteoarthritis. He wants to treat it with a Synvisc-One injection. So I'd like to hear from anyone who has had this injection. I'd like to know if you thought it was effective in treating your knee symptoms.
I can not comment on the efficacy of synvisc injections other than to say that if he is recommending this intervention it likely that the severity of your arthritis is signficant. In addition to synvisc injection, it is important to pay attention to to the kind and amount of exercise and activity. Take a look at Osteoarthritis: Cartilage and Exercise.
