Re: Calling all Penguins (slow runners)

The Penguin Nation was represented in California today!! Hopefully the picture loaded correctly lol! We ran a 4 mile run to benefit the Legal Aid Society..."the run for justice" and had a blast!

The picture is from left to right myself, sunrunner and retiredgirl..after crossing the finish line!! Whoo Hoo a PR for all of us since none of us had done a 4 miler before! I was 20th in my age group which consisted of a whole 23 people!!

Time was 52:52....I used my interval timer for the first time in a race and I think I like it...I did 9:1...of course went out to fast and hit the 1 mile marker in 10 minutes...but justice was served on me for the following miles to come out at a 13:12 average

We all wore penguin shirts and had fun!! Our city mayor ran the race and he came in at 41 minutes and is an ex NBA player so I don't think we did bad!!!

Can't wait to sign up for another one, trying to get in as many as I can before moving to Ecuador where at this point in time they don't have any organized races...my husband says that's likely to change!!!!

    Happy running everyone!!

Re: Calling all Penguins (slow runners)

It was a really fun race.  I came in at 1:00:31 for a pace of 15.08, which was much better than I expected -- I've been hitting 17 min/mile on my daily runs.  I thought I was beaten by an 80+ woman who was walking for Pete's sake, but apparently not. I can only hope to be as fit as she is when I am her age.

Had a bad running day today training for the Southern Indiana Classic Marathon.

My goal was 20 miles I completely ran out of gas at 14.5 miles.

Next weekend when I do my long run I am going to try interval training: run a mile walk a minute.

Looks like you ladies had a fun race, & I love the pictures!

Just a quick check in to let you know that Mimi & I completed the Birmingham Half Marathon today.  Her time was around 2:40-ish, and my (watch) time was 3:02:02.  I didn't quite beat 3 hours, but I DID average < 14mm pace, which was my goal.  And NO leg cramps!!  My mind is too befuddled to prep a race report right now, but suffice it to say, it was great to meet Mimi, and run on such a great course on a beautiful spring-like day. Glad to hear most everyone is doing well.

    Hi,

Congratulations on your 1/2 marathon. You did great. I am in awe. I did a 1/2 marathon and my time was 3 hours 22 minutes, so you got to a 14 minute mile. I'm still a work in progress.

    Happy Valentine's day to all.

Re: Calling all Penguins (slow runners)

Hi Penguins!  Kudos to everybody doing such great runs!  I love this group, so motivating.  I've been out of sorts the last couple of weeks with a cold bug, last run was right before I got sick.  I'm a nurse in an urgent care clinic and the downside of that is being exposed to lots of bugs!  It's a beautiful 65 degrees here today and I got out and just finished 2.4 mi. My plan for this week is to do the same run two more times and then a longer run on Saturday.  My speed is 14:35 min./mi. I've always been a 'Penguin' and that's just the way it is.  I want to increase my distance in the next couple of months to get ready for a 10k May 1.  The last fun run I did was 2004 and I feel like once I accomplish one after so many years of not doing any, then I'll have the confidence that I can do one again.  I would really appreciate any advice any of you can give me on training for the 10k!  I was a runner for years thru the 90s and early 2000s and did 6.2 every day like clockwork, it was just part of my life and it kept me sane, I've missed it so much....Just started back a couple of months ago and it's getting easier every run...my muscles remember!  I just want to work my way back to running being an everyday part of my life like it used to be.  We're expecting snow by tomorrow night but I'm running Tuesday no matter what the weather is...Can't use bad weather as an excuse...I used to run in the snow wrapped head to toe but I was out there...and there's always the treadmill.  Again, love the motivation I'm getting from all of you and I'm a proud Penguin!!

Art, Sorry you had a bad training day....I'm sure you'll do fine when race time comes...your interval training is something I'm thinking about doing as I'm a returnee to running and am getting ready for my first run in many years in May.  I'm in awe that you're doing the mileage you're doing...I have your web site on my favorites.  Whatever you accomplish when race time comes you should be proud of.
