I'm writing an article about the growing popularity of swimming-based vacations. I'd like to know if YOU have ever made swimming the basis for a vacation, including event or race-based trips, organized trips, or trips you have cobbled together on your own.
Just a few quick lines, and your name and hometown if you wish to be quoted.
I've never done anything formal, but always try to incorporate swimming on any vacay I take. I like the idea of forming a vacation around the sport instead of the other way around. I checked out swimvacation website, great idea for a trip...esp as it gets colder and I'm forced to play wall tag all winter...
Cool question. And the trip on that link looks awesome. For more far-flung swimming adventures, this group offers some additional trips: http://www.swimtrek.com/
I'd love to take one, but they're a little too expensive for me right now. Currently, I'm setting my sights on possibly doing the Alcatraz Sharkfest Swim (http://www.envirosports.com/events/event.php?eventid=2190). And I know that teams come to San Diego from all over California for the La Jolla Cove Gatorman. Even saw a few from Arizona!
